General
Fishersdene is a traditional Broads chalet situated between Martham and Potter Heigham. It has direct river frontage making it suitable for mooring a boat and/or fishing.
Important: Fishersdene is accessible by boat or on foot only (10 to 15 minutes level walk from car parking). One car parking space is included at Potter Heigham. Weekly or daily boat hire can be booked direct with Phoenix Boat Hire. Click here for prices and contact details of Phoenix Marine. Due to the location and access to this property, we regret that we are unable to make reasonable adjustments to make this property DDA friendly.
Fishersdene sleeps up to 2 adults plus two children in 2 bedrooms (1 double room plus 1 single room with a single day bed with additional pull out single). There is also a sofa bed (double) in the lounge. There is a light and airy sitting/dining room with French windows onto the spacious attractive riverside decking. The stunning open water views of the river are ideal for fishing (during the fishing season) or just relaxing by the water. This section of the property is not fenced off so extra care and caution should be taken for pets and young children. The rear of the property has uninterrupted views across the water meadow so perfect for dog walking and space for children to play.
Fishersdene is perfectly situated to explore the northern broads of Hickling, Martham and Horsey (the latter being only a 20 minute walk from the beach). At Horsey there are viewing platforms over the sand dunes to watch the seals and their pups. You will also see the Horsey Windpump which is one of many that used to dot the Norfolk landscape and assist with drainage of the dykes. Take advantage of your location being on the east side of Potter Heigham Bridge. Many larger motor cruisers do not fit under this bridge keeping this section of the River Thurne relatively quiet.
You can easily access Hickling Broad which is the largest expanse of water of all the Broads and is an area of Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a year round destination for spotting wildlife and in particular the Common Crane and the Swallowtail Butterfly so remember to bring your binoculars. If you arrange boat hire then you can take advantage of exploring Hickling Broad by boat and view the wildlife from a different perspective. Head to Hickling Staithe and you will find the Pleasure Boat Inn for a relaxing waterfront lunch before heading back to your accommodation for some drinks on your private decking.
