The Farmhouse is set in an impressive position, sitting within its own enclosed courtyard on the shoreline of picturesque Loch Caolisport, close to the lush banks of Ellary Burn. Located in a serene and peaceful spot with views directly across the water towards rolling hills and distant mountains, the Farmhouse is just a stone’s throw away from the two pretty beaches which are a popular feature of the local area. Ideal for families with children, a group of friends or guests who wish to bring pets, this cottage has plenty of storage for bikes, canoes or paddleboards in its stone outhouses. Situated within walking distance of Ellary Harbour, the Farmhouse is also perfect for anyone who wishes to bring their own boat. For those who love to walk and appreciate local flora & fauna, you only need to head along the hill road for a chance to see wildlife such as deer, foxes and red squirrels. Closer to the shore, you might even be lucky enough to spot otters or seals whilst you investigate the many rock pools that are dotted along the coast, fish in Lochead Burn, collect sea glass, paddle or take a swim in the crystalline, fresh waters of the Loch.
The Farmhouse sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms; a generous double bedroom on the ground floor and two twin rooms on the first floor. Recently updated, this property boasts a spacious living room with a sturdy dining table seating 6 guests; plus there’s a fully equipped kitchen which has an oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and breakfast table which seats up to 4. The comfortable living room has a warming open fire for cooler evenings, Sky Freeview TV/DVD and fabulous views of the Loch and adjacent countryside through its large picture window. A dividing door leads out to a light and airy sun lounge which has sofa seating and triple aspect windows…here you can take in your surroundings whilst enjoying your morning cuppa or partake in a wee dram during the evening as you sit back to admire the distant stars. A door from the sun lounge opens onto a small patio and a grassy outside area where there is plenty of space for children (or pets) to run around and play. A family bathroom provides you with a bath (shower over) WC and wash basin. Private parking is provided. Wifi available.
A self-catering holiday here offers an interesting and relaxing location for couples, families or a group of friends. The shoreline is made up of numerous small inlets, little islands and lovely sandy beaches. Located in the midst of two large private estates, covering over 15,000 acres, there are lots of great walks, pretty glens and many excellent trout lochs to discover. Cyclists and mountain bikers will be spoilt for choice on the quiet roads, many tracks and winding trails. Keen anglers can enjoy fly fishing in Lochead Burn which has salmon and sea trout in abundance (a license can be purchased at the office for salmon and trout fishing). Also, as there is no light pollution here it is the absolutely perfect location for star-gazing. The Farmhouse is dog friendly, so you can bring your four legged friends along too and make this a truly unforgettable getaway.
There is a small shop for provisions, a low-key restaurant and relaxing lounge bar at the Castle Sween Holiday Park, about 5 miles down the road if you’d like a meal out (takeaway service is available) and a little further away the town of Lochgilphead has a decent size supermarket. For a scenic drive, the pretty town of Tarbert has quite a few shops and cafes, plus some art galleries and restaurants overlooking its picturesque historic harbour. Whilst you’re there you can also visit Robert the Bruce's 14th century castle which sits above the harbour town. Heading further north you can explore the Crinan Canal and the village of Tayvallich where you might be lucky enough to spot the local beavers. From Crinan, why not go on a boat trip to visit the amazing Corryvreckan Whirlpool which is situated between Jura and Scarba, or a longer drive will take you to the busy seaside town of Oban where you can sample the freshest of seafood (that day’s catch) right there on the docks. A visit to the lovely white sandy beach at Kilmory is also highly recommended during your stay.
The Ellary and Castle Sween Estates are located at Lochgilphead, Argyll on the Scottish West Coast between Lochs Sween and Caolisport. Stunning scenery, beautiful mountain ranges, breath-taking lochs, excellent walks, fishing and an abundance of wildlife make this holiday property a beautiful and truly memorable place to stay.
