For those who enjoy walking and appreciate local flora & fauna, just head along the hill road where you could see a variety of wildlife such as deer, foxes and red squirrels. Walking near the water, heading towards Castle Sween, you might even be lucky to spot some otters or seals.
Baliemore Cottage sleeps up to 4 people in two decent sized double bedrooms; ideal for couples or a small family group. The open plan living area comes complete with a modern, well-equipped kitchen which includes an electric oven & hob, a microwave, refrigerator and deep freezer. There is a comfortable sitting room with two spacious sofas, a cosy electric fire, a dining table and Sky TV/Freeview, DVD. French doors lead out to an attractive enclosed garden which features a small patio. The family bathroom has a large walk-in shower, WC and wash basin. Private gated parking sits alongside the cottage and is accessible from the kitchen area. The cottage offers free Wifi.
A self-catering holiday here offers an interesting and relaxing location for couples, families and the adventurous too. The nearby shoreline is made up of numerous small inlets, little islands and lovely sandy beaches. Located in the midst of two large private estates, covering over 15,000 acres, there are lots of great walks, pretty glens and many excellent trout lochs to discover. Cyclists and mountain bikers will be spoilt for choice on the quiet roads, many tracks and winding trails. Keen anglers can enjoy fly fishing nearby at Lochead Burn which has salmon and sea trout in abundance. Also, as there is no light pollution here it is the absolutely perfect location for star-gazing. Baliemore Cottage is dog friendly, so you can bring your four legged friends along too and make this a truly unforgettable getaway.
There is a small shop for provisions, a low-key restaurant and relaxing Lounge Bar at the Castle Sween Holiday Park, about 3 miles down the road, if you fancy some company or a tasty meal (takeaway service is available) and a little further away the town of Lochgilphead has a decent size supermarket. For a scenic drive, the pretty town of Tarbert has quite a few shops and cafes, plus some art galleries and restaurants overlooking its picturesque historic harbour. Whilst you’re there you can also visit Robert the Bruce's 14th century castle which sits above the harbour town. Heading further north you can explore the Crinan Canal and the village of Tayvallich where you might be lucky enough to spot some beavers. From Crinan, why not go on a boat trip to visit the amazing Corryvreckan Whirlpool which is situated between Jura and Scarba. At Kilmartin Glen you can visit the ancient cairns and Gaelic museum or a longer drive will take you to the busy seaside town of Oban where you can sample the freshest of seafood (that day’s catch) right there on the docks. A visit to the lovely white sandy beach at Kilmory is also highly recommended during your stay.
The Ellary and Castle Sween Estates are located at Lochgilphead, Argyll on the Scottish West Coast between Lochs Sween and Caolisport.
