General
Bittern Cottage is a semi-detached property which sleeps 4 people in one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, perfect for a small family, 2 couples or friends on a fishing trip. Situated on the River Thurne in the popular village of Potter Heigham, this is perfect base from which to enjoy your Norfolk Broads holiday. There is an open-plan living area with an electric stove for the cooler evenings. Extend the long summer days by opening the patio doors leading onto a large decking area, where you can take advantage of dining alfresco whilst enjoying the beautiful views of the River Thurne.
A complimentary one full day boat hire is included for 7 night bookings, plus 25% off additional hire - subject to availability.
Explore the beautiful Broads network with your day boat or hop in the car to explore further afield. Explore the many river navigations and nature reserves. Follow along the River Ant to How Hill Nature Reserve which is owned by the Broads Authority. Encompassing over 125 hectares you will find a mixture of wet and dry woodlands, pastures, meadows and open water. Take a stroll through the secret garden and see if you can spot the Swallowtail Butterfly, the Norfolk Broads is the only place in the UK to spot it. In the same area you will find Toad Hole Cottage Museum. Take time to visit here and see how people lived and worked the marshes in Victorian times.
Cruise further up the river and you will reach Barton Broad. Here you may see sailing yachts gracefully tacking across this wider stretch of water just like Admiral Nelson back in the 1760’s. After a busy day exploring head back to the comfort of your accommodation on the water where you can have a relaxing drink or dinner on your private decking before heading in to cosy round your electric stove in the lounge.
