Rockland Broad

Visit one of the hidden gems of the Norfolk Broads and enjoy a tranquil walk with only the sound of nature to be heard. Rockland Broad is only a stones throw away from the peaceful village of Rockland St Mary and is located on one of the regions most popular walking routes, the Wherryman’s Way. There’s a spacious car park allowing you to arrive by car and there’s plenty of mooring space should you decide to arrive by boat.

From Rockland Staithe, head through the gate and follow the path past the valley and around to the left. You will then see Rockland Broad. To get the best views, head into the bird hide and see if you can spot some of the wildlife.

If you continue east along the river you will come to the Beauchamp Arms pub, which boasts a fabulous riverside location. Here you can stop for a much needed refreshment or stay for a full meal. If you don’t fancy walking any further, head back along the river, passed the broad and onto the car park. If you fancy walking a little further on you will come to some more popular destinations on the broads such as Loddon and Reedham.

Keep walking along the route and you will eventually end up in the popular seaside town of Great Yarmouth, where you will be able to enjoy a stunning stretch of soft golden sand. If the sun is shining, why not take treat yourself to an ice cream on the beach and go for a paddle in the water. There are some great attractions here too and some lovely restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat.

If you don’t fancy walking any further than the broad, you will only be a short distance away from the historic city of Norwich, so why not take a detour on your way back to your accommodation and explore this lovely city. You will find a wealth of historic attractions including the grand castle museum that stands high above the surrounding buildings and houses a fine selection of ancient artifacts. The city cathedral is also nearby and is open throughout the week. Alternatively, you can do some shopping in the modern shops or try one of the exquisite local restaurants.
